jQuery was first released in 2006. Nearly 5 years later, it’s still going strong – due largely in part to the community that’s been built up around it. This community of developers constantly releases plugins that allow web developers to easily add amazing functionality to their projects.

Continuing our “Best of 2011? series, the focus this week is on jQuery plugins. Over the past eleven months we’ve seen a lot of great new plugins being released, which made choosing our favorites extremely difficult.

As a designer-cum-developer I find myself visiting forums quite frequent, not to chat but rather to check out what’s new, what’s in trend or the hottest topics discussed. Participating in forums discussion not only allows you to share your interest and techniques with fellow peers, but as well as mutually gaining in terms of skills and knowledge. Rumors of Google’s next-generation Nexus smartphone have been floating in the ether for months. As we approach the phone’s imminent release, only a fortunate few have been able to get their hands on one, including not only we at WIRED, but also the gadget tinkerers at iFixit, who just posted a full teardown of what lies beneath the Nexus hood.

First, the Galaxy Nexus is way easier to open than any Apple phone. Unlike the iPhone, the Galaxy Nexus doesn’t use any esoteric screws to attach the case to its frame, and this allows quick access to the phone’s innards. There’s also minimal adhesive sticking the motherboard to other components, making a full teardown relatively easy. This will come in handy if you abuse your phone enough to warrant cracking open the hood for a look-see.
